How Much Does IVF Cost in Malaysia?

Explore and understand IVF cost in Malaysia

For many couples and individuals considering fertility treatment, price may be one of the first questions that comes to mind.

In Malaysia, IVF is generally more affordable than in many countries, but prices can still vary significantly between fertility centres.

What Is the Standard Price of an IVF Package in Malaysia?

The average price of a standard IVF treatment in Malaysia typically ranges from MYR 20,000 to MYR 30,000.

The price of a standard IVF treatment is different between fertility centres due to several factors, such as:

  • the fertility medications used during treatment
  • the laboratory technologies and techniques involved
  • the experience and expertise of the fertility specialists, embryologists, and clinical team

Why Are Some IVF Packages Cheaper Than Others?

Not all IVF packages are identical. Several factors can influence the price as mentioned above.

Lower Stimulation Protocols or Reduced Medication

Some lower-priced IVF packages may utilise lower stimulation protocols, which involve smaller amounts of fertility medication and can help reduce the overall treatment cost. Lower stimulation is not necessarily a lesser form of treatment; rather, it is a different clinical approach that may be suitable for certain patients based on their individual circumstances and medical needs.

Because lower stimulation protocols generally aim to produce fewer follicles, fewer eggs may be retrieved during the treatment cycle. As a result, fewer embryos may be available for development, testing (if applicable), freezing, or future transfer.

The impact of this varies from patient to patient. While some patients may achieve a successful pregnancy from a lower stimulation cycle, others may require additional treatment cycles to obtain the number of embryos needed to optimise their chances of success.

Advanced Laboratory Technologies and Techniques

The standard of an IVF laboratory and the expertise of the embryology team are among the most important factors influencing the overall price of treatment. Fertility centres that invest heavily into advanced laboratory technologies, stringent quality control systems, and highly trained embryologists often have higher operating costs, which are reflected in the price of their IVF packages.

With a world-class IVF laboratory and advanced assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs), fertility centres are better equipped to create a highly controlled and optimal environment for fertilisation, embryo culture, and embryo monitoring throughout the IVF process.

In addition, with highly trained embryology teams, fertility centres are also able to handle eggs, sperm and embryos with exceptional precision at every stage of treatment, helping to support the best possible conditions for embryo development.

As a result, IVF packages offered by centres with more advanced laboratory capabilities and greater embryology expertise will be priced higher than those with more basic facilities and services.

What Should be Included in a Standard IVF Treatment Package?

After understanding the key factors that influence the price of standard IVF treatment, the next step is to explore what is typically included in a standard IVF treatment package. This is important as it helps patients clearly understand what they are paying for, compare different fertility centres more effectively, and avoid unexpected fees during their treatment journey.

A standard IVF package should cover the core components of treatment, such as:

  • treatment planning and monitoring visits with the fertility specialist throughout the IVF cycle
  • standard fertility medications, including hormonal stimulation injections and luteal phase support medication
  • operating theatre charges for egg retrieval and embryo transfer procedures
  • fees for sedation administered by an anaesthetist
  • IVF laboratory procedures, including fertilisation, embryo culture, and monitoring by embryologists
  • fresh embryo transfer

In some cases, IVF packages offered by certain fertility centres may not include all of the essential components listed above. These items may be billed separately during the course of treatment, particularly in packages that appear to be significantly discounted.

We believe IVF care should be both comprehensive and adaptable. As part of Sunfert's standard approach, patients benefit from treatment pathways designed to accommodate clinical changes along the way. If a Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) is advised, the planned fresh embryo transfer can be converted to an FET cycle with only a minimal additional fee, providing greater flexibility and continuity of care.

Cost of IVF Package is Only One Factor to Consider

While affordability matters, choosing an IVF provider or centre should involve more than comparing prices.

We listed here a few aspects that each couple should look into before deciding which IVF centre they should go with.

Fertility Specialist Expertise

When choosing a fertility specialist, consider their experience, reputation, and commitment to providing personalised care. As every couple's path to parenthood is different, a personalised treatment approach can help address their specific fertility needs and goals.

Embryology Team and Laboratory Standard

Experienced embryologists and advanced laboratory technology can play an important role in treatment outcomes.

Treatment Options and Package Clarity

Understand what is included, what is excluded, and which fertility services are available for your specific situation.

A higher priced package does not always mean better treatment, while a lower priced package may not always provide the best long-term value.

The most suitable treatment plan depends on your fertility condition, age, medical history and reproductive goals.

Before starting treatment, consult a fertility specialist to understand your fertility health and the treatment options that suit you the best.

The Biological Clock

This tool indicates:

  • Natural conception per month if you have no fertility issues
  • IVF success rate at the same age
  • When to seek help after months of unsuccessful attempts

If you are concerned at any stage – we recommend booking a doctor appointment or a free nurse consultation. The sooner you make a plan the better your chances in the long term.

When to seek advice early

If you have polycystic ovaries, endometriosis, or have been through a cancer diagnosis; we recommend you get in touch quickly so we can talk you through all your options and give you the greatest possible chance of success.

If you’re a single woman considering motherhood in the future; it’s best to approach us early and consider egg freezing as this can be an option for you while you have a higher ovarian reserve and healthier eggs.

Body Mass Index calculator

Being overweight or underweight can reduce fertility, so it is important to keep your body weight within the normal healthy range.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is an indication of your body weight and can be calculated by dividing weight by height. You should aim for a BMI of between 20 and 25, as this will optimise your chances of conception.

Woman’s BMI below 19

Even in these modern times, nature knows best. If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

Being underweight

If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

BMI’s greater than 30

This can reduce fertility by 50%. Pregnancy for women with a 30+ BMI is often associated with problems such as maternal diabetes, high blood pressure, big babies and increased risk of caesarean section.
